Vote YES for industrial action on pay because:
• An award of £1,400 – just 72p an hour – won’t come close to covering the increase in your household costs
• This miserly pay award won’t prevent NHS staff leaving or encourage the new recruits the NHS so desperately needs
• If we can’t make the government think again everyone loses – staff, patients and the NHS
It’s a big step. But it’s time to take it
Only a clear vote for industrial action will bring the government to
the negotiating table. The public supports you, and so do your colleagues. They believe your pay matters, even if government ministers don’t.
UNISON asked the government and employers to give NHS staff a meaningful pay rise. Above inflation – with the real living wage as a minimum. A pay award that offsets pension contribution increases and makes up for past pay cuts. They haven’t delivered.
We also asked for an urgent package of measures to convince staff to stay in the NHS. Things like correcting unfair pay banding and ensuring the right pay for all hours worked. The government haven’t delivered.
Instead, they are giving you just 72p an hour – even less after tax and pensions. That won’t help you, your patients or the NHS.
Our only option now is to ballot you for industrial action. It’s a last resort, but there is no other way to make them deliver a decent pay rise.
We know our members care passionately about their patients. That’s why we will be talking to employers about how they can ensure patient safety during industrial action – it’s what we always do.
But before we can do that you have to use your vote to get us the majority we need.
