Some people on the NHS pension scheme paid reduced national insurance contributions in the past. If they reach state pension age after April 2016, this may result in a deduction being made from the pension payments they receive.
They may be able to avoid this by topping up their national insurance contributions. Such voluntary contributions can be made in the tax year they are due or up to six years after that.
The deadline for making contributions towards the 2016-17 tax year is nearly here, so those affected may need to act swiftly!
